Roswell Heiner Seare

June 26, 1933 — March 20, 2024

Salem, Oregon

Roswell Heiner Seare, 90, of Salem, Oregon, formerly of Salt Lake City, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, eight years to the date after his dear wife, the former Joyce Dearden of Henefer, Utah. He is the son of Bryan Ray, Sr., and Agnus Heiner Seare.

Roswell grew up in Salt Lake City, where he attended school and graduated from the University of Utah. We was an all-American swimmer for the Utes, missing the Olympics by 0.20 of a second. He was a PE/swimming teacher for Intermountain (Brigham City, Utah) and Chemawa (Salem, Oregon) Indian Schools for over 25 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the Texas-Louisiana Mission, where he first met his wife. He also served as a counselor in two bishoprics and taught the gospel to Vietnamese refugees and prison inmates. His greatest love was teaching the youth. He taught early-morning seminary for many years, changing many young lives. He also worked at the Portland Oregon Temple from 1989 until 1999. He and his beloved wife served a mission to the Phnom Penh Cambodia Mission from April 1999 to October 2000.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his sister Marian J. (Seare) Kirk, brother Bryan Ray Seare, Jr., as well as his parents.

He is survived by his Children Paul Dearden Seare (Julia White), Mark Heiner Seare (Debbie Hoffmann), Dianne (Seare) Bangerter (Bruce Bangerter), Joseph Roswell Seare (Tina Catterson), and Kimberly Ann (Seare) Petersen (Mike Petersen). Roswell and Joyce had 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, with two on the way.

He loved swimming and model trains. He spent endless hours caring for his cars and pickups. His greatest joy was being with his family. He felt driven to teach Jesus Christ and His gospel to all who would listen with his constant mantra: "Stay the course, and keep the faith." Every family event ended with a verse of "High on a Mountain Top." Despite age and illness, he was always consistent with these two passions: his family and the gospel.
