On November 19, 2023, Lan K. Alder of Hailey, Idaho passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side in Reno, Nevada following a difficult struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Lan was born on May 21, 1956, to Karl and Lora Alder in Preston, Idaho. He graduated from ISU and then moved to Hailey with his wife Patricia in 1981. There he became the 13th employee at Power Engineers after taking a position as an electrical engineer. Lan's keen attention to detail, drive for perfection and love for creating made this a fulfilling and challenging career. Throughout his tenure at Power, he made many lifelong friends and was a dedicated mentor until his retirement in 2020.
Lan and Patricia were blessed with two daughters. Lan adored his daughters and they, in return, adored him. He was an unwavering family man patient, loyal, and dedicated. If ever a man lived for his family it was Lan. He also had five grandchildren and spent his time being a role model, guide, and friend to each of them. When he spoke of them, there was always a sparkle in his eye. If anyone were to ask any of his five grandchildren or either daughter if they had a hero in life, they would all have the same response.
Lan loved nature and being active. He enjoyed hiking and was an avid mountain biker. He shared these activities with his family and vacations were often spent in the red rocks of Utah teaching yet another grandchild how to embrace the thrill of the downhill or where to find the best arches off the beaten path. He could also be found riding technical trails around the valley (Prairie to Minor Lake Loop, a particular favorite) and was often accompanied by his son-in-law, who loved adventure, and his father-in-law. Any free time aside from these adventures was spent between Reno and Hailey getting to any and all life events for his grandchildren-sporting events, musical performances, and graduations to name a few. Lan spent countless hours cheering for his grandchildren. He was always the biggest fan in the room with a smile to match.
Lan was predeceased by his mother, Lora, his father Karl, and his brother Nord. He is survived by his daughters Neasha (Matt) and Lora (Michael), his grandchildren Felicia, Eva, Dylan, Keith, and Camilla, and his siblings Kade, Zon, and Nyla as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be conducted in January. Interment will follow in the Preston Cemetery. Please share a favorite memory of Lan or offer condolences to the family by leaving a tribute on this page.
